A quick update on the road to making a daydream a real thing:
Nothing.
I haven’t taken any concrete steps towards opening any version of Bookstore.ThriftStore.Bar but I have done two* things lately that are good distractions, interesting to me, and in very miniscule ways—-small steps towards my dream. (*one of these I’ll share in a future post)
Looking at LoopNet.com
The website LoopNet is so much fun for those of us even slightly considering opening a food/drinks business one day. It lists commercial buildings for sale, restaurant and retail spaces for lease, and businesses for sale. I ran a search for all businesses for sale in Calfornia and there are so many gems!…..if I had a spare $500k ; )
Some of my if-I-won-the-lotto purchases:
Sunshine Cafe - Cathedral City, CA $195,000
because the name is cute
Mobile Bar - Redding, CA $80,000
it could be parked outside my book/thrift store
Sacramento Waterfront District Bar - Old Sacramento, CA $195,000
I love Sacramento and this is such a fun area!
There is one downside to looking at these interesting and exciting opportunities—all of these places were once someone’s number one dream and now that dream may be completely dashed. Many of the listings share why the business is up for sale, and some of them are happy reasons, like Retirement. But there must be some very sad and stressful situations presented so crisply on this website.
I hope that if your dream has changed and maybe is up for sale somewhere at the moment—you aleady have another one lined up and get the asking price you need!
