Holding Onto A Dream During a Nightmare
How can a business dream operate if/when the world ends again
The dream: every night after work (for me, that’s office life) you go to a small, empty, storefront/retail/bar space. This space is a work in progress and you are doing all the work. You paint, and clean, and hang bookshelves, and price things, and stock things. Luckily, the rent is doable. Luckily you have this free time after work. Luckily, your partner is supportive. Luckily, your family and friends haven’t tired of you sharing updates.
One day you are ready.
You announce an opening day and have enough in the bank to last you a year(!?)-you won’t be homeless or hungry but you will not be making money (for at least a year) but you will be making joy.
You will be DOING WHAT YOU WANT-you will be your own boss.
You will not be #officelife anymore.
That is my dream.
What would have happened if I got my dream in February 2020?
GASP

I know this happened to so many new business owners in 2020 and 2021 and maybe this is happening again now—and I’m not making light of that heartbreak and loss.

Below are my strategies and ideas for how I would plan/prepare for/deal with the GASP that is bound to happen sometime, if I ever get a real-life chance at my dream.
