Hi! So I missed a week (or more) of talking to you all here! I missed you!
I am really really good at day dreaming about being a bookstore owner, about being a bar owner, about being a non-#officeLife person, but I am not good at writing about those things on a bi weekly schedule——Let’s hope that changes for the rest of this year:)
My second post of 2022 is keeping it simple, silly:
These photos are all taken by me, in 2021 & 2022. Can’t wait to collect some more bar photos this year! My first overnight out of town trip will be in March to Sacramento-Reno! Woohoo!
Quail State has been heaven sent to my lil’ (not so little) ol’ town. Fresh drink ideas, rotating food menus, and the best service and venue in my opinion. This is not a great photo but their neon sign is a beacon on Fulton Street.
So I haven’t actually been inside or tried anything from Kings Asian Cuisine. Their sign caught my attention while walking around Downtown Merced last month. Hopefully one day I can check out the inside. The photos on their website look promising.
Now a place I have been to! In November I did a road trip from Fresno to Chico and this was our pit stop for lunch—Yuba City, CA. There were quite a few places to choose from on Yelp but Sutter Buttes Brewing checked off 3 things: Brewery, Unique Cuisine, Good Reviews. We loved it! Definitely would love to go back. This is only one of their very cool murals/signage indoors and out.
The Happy Viking was on the list of maybe-stop places on our Fresno—>Chico roadtrip but it didn’t make the cut, hopefully next time! The sign is adorable!
Another brewery with a cool sign, Temblor Brewing in Bakersfield, CA. I got to visit, drink their beer, and eat their food on Monday, September 27, 2021. We stopped here on a road trip back from San Diego—the perfect place to stop in my opinion if your final destination is Fresno. Such a cool, chill, welcoming place. Great beers on tap, great food menu. Definitely want to take a road trip to Bakersfield just for this place!
Finally, I’m sharing two photos from a long time Fresno favorite, Cosmopolitan Tavern. Cosmopolitan has been in my life long years before I could drink. They used to be located closer to the center of Downtown, near where my mom worked at the time. She had so many stories of their wonderful sandwiches—and although she wasn’t a drinker, she admired the beautiful wood bar and old school vibe. It wasn’t in the safest part of downtown (near a neighborhood I now love and live in! haha!) and it might have even been located right next to an “adult bookstore” (LOL! an old term, I know!) so whevener her and her female coworkers wanted a sandwich from Cosmo’s they either sent one of their male coworkers to pick it up, or one of the male coworkers would walk with them to Cosmo’s as a sort of bodyguard—-yikes! As an older-30’s adult, I know this might come across as The Patriarchy or sexist, even, but believe me, it was all in good fun among work friends and my mom was never offended by this. Without those stories I never would have known about Cosmopolitan. When the restaurant & bar moved from one side of downtown, closer to an event center, and I was of drinking age, I was excited to try it out. From my first visit, I was IMPRESSED. This is definitely Fresno’s version of a classic, classy, restaurant bar. I love every dish I’ve had here and have made some great memories sitting at the bar with old friends, family, and probably too many dates. Can’t wait to go back soon.
