Last year Ben and I observed a full Dry January—that started on 1/2/22 and ended on 2/2/22 [his family’s biggest holiday gathering of the year is on New Year’s Day=wine:].
This year will be a bit damper…
Yes, Damp January is a thing! I first heard about “damp January” or “try January” on a NPR Morning Edition broadcast (heard it on NPR). The host and guest were discusing alcohol abstinence, cutting back, or trying new boundaries around alcohol during the first month of the year. For those of us that imbibe with glee all year, I agree that a break of any amount of time will do us good.
This month will be a damp January because of the New Year’s Day festivities, like last year, and we will be doing a big wet cheers on 1/31/23 before flying to Hawaii! My first time ever! [This is an extreme privilage that I wouldn’t be able to participate in without Ben and without my parents and sister’s family planning the trip months and months ago].
Books!
I’m starting off 2023 a bit better than 22’ as far as reading goes. I have finished one Kindle book and am almost done with my 2nd. I’m in the middle or just past the middle in two paperbacks—hoping to end January with 4 books read!
Almost one month into the “new” year—I hope that we are all happy with the progress we’ve made on our goals-I think a goal we are all high achieving at right now is just being. We’re reading something today, we’re moving through our spaces, hopefully with a little calmness and maybe even full blown peace and contentment from time to time.
Cheers!
p.s. my favorite non-alcoholic drink this January are those little cans of orange soda-Ha!
