Goodbye December - Hello one more time, again.
Not exactly sure what that title is supposed to mean....
Greetings and Cheers! to all of us who survived another year!
I’m happy to write to you one more time this year-my 11th missive in 2022. (this post will have nothing to do with my goal of opening Bookstore-Thriftstore-Bar….still a BIG office daydream for now)
I listened to the Substack gods and added a Start a Substack prompt button above.
Because:
Writing for no reason is fun, and it’s good to let things out of your head, and it’s good to share thoughts, ideas, and daydreams with an audience that may or may not react, may or may not enjoy your writing/laugh/be inspired/be horrified.
I have really, really enjoyed all the substack writers I have followed and read from this year. I’ve read some exremely informative and thought provoking pieces, some are just funny, shocking, and give me fellow-elder-millenial feels. All of it was worth their time to write and share and well worth my time to read for free and for paid. Hoping to subscribe to more paid reads in 2023 as well.
3 new to me in 2022:
Meg Conley - Homeculture so.thought.provoking.
Liz Galvao - Like You Know Whatever lovely.funny.millenial
Claire Zulkey - Evil Witches Newsletter perfect for parents and cool aunties!
Starting a substack is relatively easy and Free!
2022 Year in Review
The 2022 year in review substacks I’ve read this month have been so delightful, Here’s mine:
2022 Goals-How’d I do??
Read 75 books—-I’ve read 56 so far which will be much less than the 69 books I read last year… Here are the books I’ve read this year via Goodreads (the total on GR will be 57 but it is counting a very short poetry book that I re-read)
2023 Goal-75 books
Workout/Exercise Weekly—no, no, no, I didn’t not do that, But! This year has been more active than 2021 in some ways. Boyfriend (Ben) and I went through a month or so in the summer where we walked 3 miles a day, pretty much 5 days a week-it was awesome! I did more cardio/abs/hiit workouts this year than in 2021 but way less than I did in 2020.
My favorite youtube workout guru at the moment is Heather Robertson-she’s nice and has a lot of beginner/modified workouts.
Auntie Goals-I didn’t have any specific things/goals Auntie-wise this year besides doing their Book Advent (gifting the my twin nephews 24 books on December 1st, one to open each day till December 24th). This year’s advent was fun to watch since they really understand what opening a gift is now and sometimes they shared and sometimes they DID NOT!-as almost 2-year olds do. It was also amazing seeing them enjoy the subject matter of the books this year. One of them is really into trucks, tractors, and trains, so I found many books with those themes and he loved them. They also love Sesame Street, and they enjoyed the vintage and new Sesame books that Ben and I found them. I love this tradition and it will be my yearly goal from now until they tell me to stop-haha! (I, as a 37-year-old would love to receive 24 books on December 1st!).
2023 Goal-1. go on another family vacation with my sister, bro n law, and twins-staying in the same Airbnb/hotel. We did one in 2022 and it was fun. I’d like to do 2 this year, hopefully!
2. Take a work day off to go with the twins and their mom to their community play center-have a day at a park or library-or out to lunch.
Travel Goals in 2022-go to 3 MLB games, Anaheim Angels, LA Dodgers, and SF Giants. We attended 2 games, my first time ever at Anaheim’s stadium and Ben’s first time visiting Dodger stadium.
2023 Goal: See the Colorado Rockies, AZ Diamondbacks, or Seattle Mariners. I’ve never been to any of these stadiums.
This year has been wonderful, challenging, different, and amazing in many small and big ways. I hope all of us start the new year joyfully and ready for all that is to come! CHEERS!
One more 2023 goal: go back to the Hotel Del Coronado again and maybe stay the night this time ⭐️🎄☃️🥂
Happy New Year, Sarah!
