Who else feels like on top of everything else-you feel the most stress to have a SO MUCH FUN SUMMER this year?!
I think it may be just me and my usual end of the school year blurg-bummer-feelings because:
I haven’t been in school in ages and am afraid my brain is shrinking
I don’t work somewhere that has “the summer off” {Shout of thanks to EVERYONE that works at schools—-OMG! YOU ALL DESERVE All the Praise and thanks and to Survive the work day-EVERY DAY-and better pay and benefits and paid vacations and more! Thank You!}
No matter what your summer plans are, I’m hoping this short missive will bring a smile to your face and maybe some ideas for summer fun lite.
Cheers!
Find a park in your city that you have never been to or one that you haven’t been to in years.
This might mean walking to another neighborhood, a car ride into the next county, or asking your passenger to open up Google maps and search for parks near you while you’re driving home from dinner or errands.
We recently visited a new-to-me park with my sister and her twin boys on Memorial Day. It was delightful! All we did was walk around the park with the twins and my boyfriend and my dog, play on the playground a bit, and have a few snacks. We stayed for less than 2 hours and it was quite fun!
*bonus points if you find a nearby bar and/or bookstore to visit after the park adventure
**triple points if you bring a book to the park and get to enjoy some outdoors time reading
Go to your local library and check out or just spend some time looking at all the travel books.
We can’t all fly in a plane, go on a cruise, or even drive our cars very far these days, but reading is always free. So thankful for local libraries!
Here are some recommendations that I found in my local library’s online catalog:
World Travel: An Irreverent Guide by Anthony Bourdain & Laurie Woolever
Would love to read something by a travel master
50 Adventures in the 50 States by Kate Siber & Illustrated by Lydia Hill
This is a children’s book but looks like a great read with great illustrationsNatGeo’s Complete National Parks of Europe
I had never even thought of the national parks that are outside the U.S.A.-whoa!
A Few More Summer Lite Ideas (mostly drink related)…
Drink all the drinks (responsibly)-order that magarita at Chili’s!
Put a strawberry in your ice water.
Put ice cream in your coffee on Monday morning before heading to work (doing this tomorrow!)
Drink a beer/cider/iced tea in your backyard/balcony/front stoop/while looking out the window
forget for a few moments that this world is a hard and dark place to be a lot of the time
remember that summers were the highlight of your year and you can create your own highlights now whenever you want because you are an adult-HA!
Thank you to everyone who reads my silly words every month or so. Let me reintroduce myself quickly: Sarah, newly 37 years old, dog parent, Auntie, Girlfriend, reader, drinker, thrifter, dreamer, and office worker for the last 16 years (this August! YIKES!).{Unless noted otherwise: I use canva.com to make my lil’ graphics/images/illustrations and all links are unaffiliated}
Cheers!
