Summer is over!!!
Here in the office, the countdown to Thanksgiving Vacation (two extra days off—-don’t even look at me if your office closes for the whole week-LUCKY!) has begun.
The candy jar is full of Halloween wrapped chocolate and a few decorations are out and about. All I can think about is my next trip out of this place and fun weekends of eats and drinks that are already planned in October.
If only our vacation days could be 28 hours long…
What Do I Do before any trip so that I can eat and drink as much as possible while away from home?
Google Maps Lists
Does everyone do this? Probably everyone does—or at least something similar. I also keep a few bookmarked places on Yelp and I have travel wishlight highlights saved on Instagram—-but Google Maps lists have been my go to for the last few years whenever I plan to place one toe outside of Fresno, CA.
I want to find all the breweries in every town, I want to visit a bar that looks instagram-y and then one that has a “locals only” dive-vibe. I want to know where the thrift stores are and if there are any used bookstores.
I know I won’t actually be able to see all 50-75 places I have saved for each city, BUT, I can at least try…………
I do enjoy accidentally finding the best-coolest-tacos-and-drinks place around the corner, down the alley BUT
usually, traveling as an over-30 year old-sometimes with nephews (under 2 years old), eating with vegetarians, traveling while it’s 100+ degrees outside requires:
A Plan & Multiple Options/Backup Plans
So my Google Maps lists are filled with
indoor and outdoor dining options-depending on the weather or which place is best to bring a double stroller into
anything even slightly worth trying if it is also in WALKING DISTANCE from the hotel/motel/airbnb
I love finding the post office and local library and city hall in any new to me city—-usually you can see some pretty neat architecture or just get a bit of the city’s vibe from those buildings.
Over Labor Day weekend my boyfriend and I visited LA/Anaheim/Santa Ana. My Google Maps list started with about 60 places, after 3 days it’s down to 50 places I’d still love to see.
LA/Anaheim Drinks
Creating a new travel wishlist is a bright spot during dull officeLife days
Wishing us all good drinks, good dreams, and joy this October! Cheers!
